Vršič Pass (50 mins) A spectacular drive or cycle over the Julian Alps. Drive through the town centre of Kranjska Gora and over the windy road to Bovec and on to Tolmin. You can return via Skofja Loka or through the car-train tunnel at Bohinj or make a half-day by heading back the same way (see signtseeing page).
Skofja Loka (45 mins) The buildings in Skofja Loka's old town square are adorned with frescos. A short walk takes you from here up to the castle where you can look out over the confluence that forms the Sora River. The hills around the town are perfect for a cycling or driving day trip - take the car-train service through the tunnel from Bohinj and then pick your way over the hills to SL, before returning on the main road!
Bovec and Tolmin (1:15 hrs) Bovec is a water sport Mecca, while Tolmin has some amazing gorges, where crystal clear water has carved through the limestone. Can be combined with a trip to Skofja Loka, or over the Vršič Pass.
The cave systems in Slovenia's Karst region are vast. Postojna Cave has a train as well as the biggest cavern in Europe, where underground concerts are sometimes held for 10,000 people. Skocjan Cave has a very impressive underground river canyon. A good place to warm up in winter or cool down in summer (the cave stays at 10°C).
Lipizzaner Horse Stud (1:45 hrs) The world famous horse stud in Lipica, birthplace of the white Lipizzaner horses that have been bred and trained here for centuries. They offer beginner and advanced riding. You can easily combine a visit to the Postojna cave with Lipica and/or Predjama Castle.
Predjama Castle (1:30 hrs) This castle has a commanding position, half-way up a cliff in the mouth of a cavern!
Logarska Dolinka (2 hrs) Reputedly the most beautiful valley in Slovenia with towering peaks on three sides.
Wine Regions (3 hrs) In the East of Slovenia and the Primorje region.

Day Trips
Day trips can easily be made to most of Slovenia's tourist spots as well as plenty in Italy, Austria and Croatia. The capital Ljubljana is only an hour away and the coast is 2 hours. As well as Bled, Kranjska Gora and all the local delights (see sightseeing page), these are a pick of the best, with driving times in brackets.
